Forged pistons are inherently stronger than cast pistons but they are not without their own drawbacks, perhaps the biggest one begin piston to wall clearance. As forged pistons expand more when hot then their cast piston counterparts, then the forged piston requires larger piston to wall clearance to allow for its expansion when hot. Large piston to wall clearances when cold can quickly wear out a piston. However some forged pistons use a high percentage of silicone in their make up and this reduces their thermal expansion, you just have to find the right piston!
With regards to selecting a piston for a turbo engine, by and large if the redline is going to remain the same as stock then a cast piston should prove adequate. When the rev limit is increased the stresses placed on the piston rise massively and it is in these situations when the forged piston will come into its own.
