The Civic is not famous for having good brakes from the factory. The EG Civic, EJ Civic and EP Civic are renowned for having weak brakes. As with any car, fitting a set of performance brake pads is one of the most effective modifications you can do to any car. It doesn't matter if you are not a hard driver, if you don't take advantage of the higher heat capacity of performance brake pads you will find your performance brake pads last much longer than the OE brake pads. If you are hard on your brakes you will find they are able to give you stopping and much higher temperatures and have a longer life than the OE pads you were destroying originally.
