Impreza Tuning Packs
Impreza Tuning Pack 1 - PPP (Prodrive Performance Pack)
Let's start with the PPP and see what it offers. You get a remapped
ECU
an a freer flowing cat back
exhaust system. The result of fitting these
parts is power up to 300bhp and torque up to 299lbs/ft, also of note is
the
extra 30% of torque at 2500rpm. Although the car feels much more
muscular it feels strained at the top end, more than likely because the
standard turbo is running out of puff.
Power: 300bhp
Torque: 299lbs/ft
0-60: 5.2secs
0-100: 12.9secs
1/4mile: 13.7@102
80-100 in 4th: 4.4
Cost: 1995GBP
Impreza Tuning Pack 2 -
Litchfield Imports/Powerstation
Very similar to the Prodrive pack in terms of what is offered, this
package comes with a sports cat and cat back exhaust system from Milltek
and an ECUTEK
remap. Power is a little bit up on the Prodrive car and
the mapping is just as good but again the turbo seems to run out of puff
at higher rpms. The added bonus of this pack is that if you bought your
Impreza new from Litchfield imports and had this Impreza tuning pack
fitted it would
come with a 3 year warranty.
Power: 320bhp
Torque: 310lbs/ft
0-60: 5.3secs
0-100: 13.1secs
1/4mile: 13.7/103
80-100 in 4th: 4.7
Cost: 1891GBP

Impreza Tuning Packs
Impreza Tuning Pack 3 - G Force Motorsport 1
GForce were the UK's biggest supplier of Impreza tuning parts from the
Australian firm APS. Their tuning pack comes with an ECUTEK remap,
uprated
fuel pump and APS's own 3incch diameter cat back exhaust system.
Again very similar to the PPP conversion but the 3000rpm punch where the
turbo comes in is much more noticeable. If the Litchfield or PPP tuning
packs sound a bit civilised for you the G-Force could be right up your
street if your looking for a bit of savagery in the power delivery.
Power: 315bhp
Torque: 300lbs/ft
0-60:: 5.2secs
0-100: 12.1secs
1/4mile: 13.5/104
80-100 in 4th: 4.0
Cost: 1995GBP
Impreza Tuning Pack 4 -
Graham Goode Racing (GGR)
The GGR is again similar to the tuning packs listed above but it goes a
little bit further. It comes with a sports car, cat back exhaust system,
ECUTEK remap and the extra parts the others don't have, and
induction
kit. The GGR tuning pack suffers from noticeably slower boost response
below 3600rpm. Whereas the other tuning packages start making power from
3000rpm the GGR program does get going until 3600rpm. On the flip side
the GGR cars pulls hard towards the rev limiter unlike the GForce,
Litchfield and PPP cars.
Power: 330bhp
Torque: 320lbs/ft
0-60: 5.2secs
0-100: 12secs
1/4mile: 13.5/105
80-100 in 4th: 3.7
Cost: 1900GBP
Impreza Tuning Pack 5 - TSL Motorsport
Again the TSL package comes with a cat back exhaust system and ECUTEK
remap. To keep to the chase the map is extremely good, it is just as
good as the PPP car but the boost comes in sooner and there is more
power at the top end, it's like the PPP pack but better. The adjustment
of the cam lift and timing and ignition must have taken a while but it
was worth it
Power: 333bhp
Torque: 333lbs/ft
0-60: 4.8secs
0-100: 12.6secs
1/4mile: 13.6/103
80-100 in 4th: 3.9
Cost: 2100GBP
Impreza Tuning Pack 6 - GForce Motorsport Pack 2
More involved mods come with this tuning package the main aspect being
the larger front mounted intercooler, there also modifications to the
induction and exhaust systems. The changes the parts make is dramatic.
The boost comes in lower and harder and pulls cleanly and powerfully to
the redline. By 2700rpm pressure is up to 1bar and by 3500rpm there is
almost 2 bar which is held to 6500rpm.
Power: 355bhp
Torque: 335lbs/ft
0-60: 4.3secs
0-100: 10.8secs
1/4mile: 12.8/109
80-100 in 4th: 3.5
Cost: 5495GBP
Impreza Tuning Pack 7 - GForce Motorsport Pack 3
A much more comprehensive set up than the previous 2 packages from
GForce. This set up comes with a turbo back exhaust system, ECUTEK
remap, bigger turbo, 8
injector setup and oil cooler and a paddle
clutch. This setup has the similar characteristics to the PPP car but
magnified as you would expect from a car putting out 400bhp.
Power: 400bhp
Torque: 360lbs/ft
0-60: 4.4secs
0-100: 10.1secs
1/4mile: 12.7/111
80-100 in 4th: 3.1
Cost: 11,645GBP
Impreza Tuning Pack 8 -
Roger Clark Motorsport
Another big money conversion but there is no doubt that this is a
special setup. For the money you get an uprated clutch, a completely
rebuilt motor using new steel rods,
crankshaft and
forged pistons, a
huge amount of
cylinder head work, front mount intercooler, uprated fuel
system, bigger Garrett turbo and a Motec
standalone ECU. As soon as you
drive the car you know it is something special, it is extremely quick as
well as being extremely civilised. Driving the car around town you
wouldn't know that is was capable of 0-140mph in 19.8 seconds.
Power: 437bhp
Torque: 390lbs/ft
0-60: 3.99secs
0-100: 9.4secs
1/4mile: 12.5/114
80-100 in 4th: 2.8
Cost: 15,000GBP
Impreza Tuning Pack Summary
So which is the best package? Looking at the packs
closest to the PPP first, i.e. the packs with exhaust and remap, the TSL
kit seems to give the best all-round ability. It is just as good as the
PPP in terms of quality of the mapping but it also gives more power and
better response. Of the big money conversions, the RCM package sits head
and shoulders above the rest with it's Ferrari 575 Maranello like
acceleration.
